VIDEO: Interview with David Davis covering Selecting the Right Hardware for Virtualization

by David Davis on June 21, 2010

Here’s a video interview I (David Davis) did with Colin Steele of SearchServerVirtualization.com about how to select the right hardware for virtualization. Enjoy!

I wouldn’t say it’s best to take that kind of middle-of-the-road approach when selecting the hardware for virtualization. Anyway the most expensive, latest and fastest CPUs will let you be in the middle of the road some time later. But there’s a higher risk that in a long run you’ll find yourself in the end of the road if you start from the middle.

Thank you for watching the video and for visiting VMwareVideos.com.

While the latest and most expensive hardware may be *best* for virtualization (or anything for that matter), when it comes down to it, it doesn’t make sense at most companies to pay the large premium for the latest hardware. Usually, it is just like buying a car where the model that is about to be replaced by the latest model is the best deal and, sometimes, you can even get almost 2:1 of the model that has been out for one year compared to the model that is brand new. (yes, I am frugal)

If your company will pay top dollar for the latest model then, by all means, go for it 🙂

Thanks again and I appreciate your comments!
