My Experience Taking the VCAP-DCA by David Davis

by David Davis on February 21, 2011

I just created a new post detailing my experience taking (and eventually passing) the VCAP-DCA (no NDA rules were violated, it’s not a braindump). In the post, I talked about how I prepared, what it was like to schedule the exam and my general experience the day of the test. Without covering any specific test questions, talk about what made the exam so challenging in hopes that others will be better prepared for the DCA and will pass on the first attempt.

I am now VCAP-DCA #59 🙂

Hi Varum,
Thanks for reading and thanks for taking time to comment!
In the US, the VCAP-DCA is $400 but likely it varies around the world. I believe the latest exam cost info will be at-
http://www.pearsonvue.com/vmware/
Also, make sure you read the DCA blueprint as it has a ton of exam details-
http://communities.vmware.com/docs/DOC-12751
Train Signal’s vSphere Troubleshooting course is already out. Our DCA PowerCLI and Performance course will be out in the next couple of months and a security course will be released by July. Together, these courses will create a VCAP-DCA package.
Still, I encourage you not to wait until then and to look at the Troubleshooting course now as that is a critical piece of the DCA exam-

Thanks again,
David

Congrats David!!
Quick question regarding the documentation provided in the exam; is it the web or the pdf format and are you allowed to do a CTRL+F and search within it.

David Davis 02.23.11 at 6:44 pm

Thanks Jeet!

The documentation is a set of PDFs and, yes, you can search them as it is just viewed in Acrobat Reader (there is no Internet access – I can’t count the number of times I had the urge to google something and couldn’t)

Hope that helps!
