Would you like to manage your VMware ESX Servers from your mobile phone (iPhone, Blackberry, or whatever)? Trust me, it is very cool! I know because I just tried out the new Virtualization Mobile Manager (VMM) Beta from Hyper9 !

Hyper9 wants to keep the number of beta participants small so they have given me just 15 invitations to the beta. To qualify, you need to work for a business that has a virtual infrastructure (VMware, Hyper-V, or Xen) and be interested in trying it out for yourself. They welcome companies from around the world.

Beta participants will receive:

50% off pricing on our already low pricing

Automatic entry into Win a Mobile Device contest, beginning in June

In exchange for a little feedback – a limited edition Hyper9 T-shirt

If that is you, just email me using the Contact Us Form on my website and say that you want to try out the Hyper9 VMM Beta!

With Virtualization Mobile Manager (VMM), you can:

Monitor Host and VM Performance Statistics (CPU, Memory)

Control VM’s and Take Action On the Go (start, stop, pause, reset, disable network)

Optimized for Mobile Devices (Apple iPhone, Blackberry, Google Android and Windows Mobile devices)

VMware Pro Tom Finnis over at Help4IT posted a good article on how to create a desktop shortcut to connect to an ESX VM console. What is very cool is that you can use the VMware Server VMRC to connect to VMware ESX Guest VM consoles using a desktop shortcut. When will VMware add a “create desktop shortcut” button in the VI client? Until then, read Tom’s article Create a desktop shortcut to connect to an ESX VM console to learn how to do it yourself.

In my new video, I demonstrate, step by step, how you can run VMware ESX Server 3.5 and ESXi 3.5 inside VMware Workstation 6.5. This is also shown in my Train Signal VMware ESX Server video training course.

While you wouldn’t run ESX in Workstation for a production server, running ESX in Workstation is an excellent way to test and demonstrate ESX Server (and the entire VMware Virtual Infrastructure suite) on a single PC. Think about it – what if you had a single PC with 2 ESX Servers, an iSCSI virtual SAN, and a Windows Server running Virtual Center. With that, you would have “VMware Infrastructure in a box” and be able to run powerful features like VMotion, SVMotion, VMHA, and Update Manager, all on a single PC.

Recently, a recruiter friend of mine approached me with an interesting part-time VMware Admin job at a company in Dallas. It is a 20-30 hour per week job on a 6+ month contract perform server consolidations with VMware. The job pays very well. You can checkout all the details of this Part-time VMware Admin job in Dallas, Texas as it is posted over in the VMware DFW Users’ Group Forum.

The second question that my recruiter friend asked me was “what are the best job sites to find VMware Admins?”. Other than the big 3 (Dice, Monster, and Careerbuilder), I had trouble thinking of any. So, my question to you, readers of VMwareVideos.com and the VMware Planet v12n - what are the best websites to look for and post VMware-related jobs? Now I am not talking about only jobs at VMware. While these could be jobs at VMware, more than likely, they are jobs working at any company that uses VMware software.

Please post your comments!
