I just received a great new VMware vSphere book in the mail today – VMware ESX and ESXi in the Enterprise by Edward Haletky (aka @TexiWill on Twitter or the VMware Community). I know that Ed has poured his heart, soul, and virtualization intelligence into this book as he updated it to its second edition. It now includes vSphere 4.1 and is available in an electronic version FREE when you purchase the book (that is cool, I plan to take advantage of that). Ed is a super-smart guy so I am sure that this is one of the top vSphere books you’ll find! I’m excited to get started reading it. You can pickup your copy at: Amazon.com – VMware ESX and ESXi in the Enterprise by Haletky

According to the table of contents, here’s what the book covers:

Assess VMware datacenter and infrastructure hardware requirements

Understand technical, licensing, and management differences between ESX/ESXi 3.5 and 4.x

Plan installation for your environment and identify potential “gotchas”

Select, configure, utilize, and support storage cost-effectively

Manage key operational issues associated with virtual infrastructure

Adapt existing network and security infrastructure to virtualization

Configure ESX from host connections

Configure ESX Server from Virtual Centers or hosts

Create, modify, and manage VMs (with detailed Windows, Linux, and NetWare examples)

Troubleshoot VM issues with eDirectory, private labs, firewalls, and clusters

Utilize vSphere 4.1’s improved Dynamic Resource Load Balancing (DRLB)

Implement disaster recovery, business continuity, and backup

Plan for vApps and the future of virtualization

After the success of my VMware ESX Server video training course from Train Signal, 3 months ago I started on a new project to create the best VMware vSphere video training course possible. After many hours of working with vSphere and sifting through VMware documentation to explore the new vSphere features and functionality, I am proud to say that my new vSphere course is ready and available to be ordered!

The course is nearly 18 hours long and is currently distributed on 3 DVDs that are shipped to your office or home. On that DVD, besides the high quality AVI version, the course will also be included in WMV, MP3, and iPod/iPhone formats. In fact, I had even more videos that wouldn’t fit on those DVDs and we will soon be making those available to be viewed, streaming, over the Internet!

That’s right, it’s Scott Lowe’s new Mastering VMware vSphere 4! If vSphere had a “bible”, this would be it. Scott covers vSphere from every direction and by the time you are done reading it, I am sure that you will be a “master” (certainly some hands-on practice of the stuff in the book would help).

In case you don’t know Scott (where have you been?), you can learn more about him on his blog and on Twitter at @scott_lowe

I am going to start reading it now and you should do the same!

As you can see from the photo, I just received my copy of Eric Siebert’s new book – VMware VI3 Implementation and Administration. I got an early chance to read part of this book and offer a quote for the praise page. Here’s what I had to say about it:

“I have read hundreds of articles by Eric Siebert and always wished that I could have it in a single book. That wish has finally come true. In Eric’s VMware VI Implementation and Administration book, he covers VI up and down, inside and out, like only Eric can. It’s the ultimate VMware VI manual.”

I was impressed with what I saw then but am even more impressed now that I have the real book, in its entirety, in my hands.

In case you haven’t heard of Eric before, he is a vExpert and real VMware guru who covers VMware VI3 from a very real-world perspective in the book.

You can read more about his book at Eric’s website, VMware-Land.com .

Order VMware VI3 Implementation and Administration in paperback and Kindle format at Amazon.com
