vChat – Episode 13 – VMware Certifications – VCP, VCAP, VCDX

by David Davis on December 3, 2010

In Episode 13 of our vChat series Eric Siebert, Simon Seagrave, and David Davis talk VMware Certifications – VCP, VCAP, & VCDX.  They cover their own experiences with certification and their path to where they are today. Additionally, they cover a ton of VMware Certification links and tips (and, you guessed it, even talk about iPads).

The full list of VMware Certification links discussed in this episode is found below the video (scroll down).

vChat is a regular virtualization video chat covering VMware vSphere, Cloud Computing, Virtualization News, and maybe some geeky humor. Regular contributors are 3 vExperts – Simon Seagrave (TechHead.co.uk), Eric Siebert (vSphere-Land.com), and David Davis (VMwareVideos.com).

Regarding the discussion of no equivalent VCAP exams for the VCDX3 process, that is not accurate. There were 2 written exams between the VCP exam and the design submission.

The VCDX3 path is/was: VCP3/4 exam->Qualification Review->Enterprise Admin exam->Design exam->Create/submit Design->Design approval & VCDX defense=VCDX3.

The Enterprise Admin exam in the VCDX3 path maps to the VCAP-DCA exam on the VCDX4 path.
The Design exam in the VCDX3 path maps to the VCAP-DCD exam on the VCDX4 path.

BTW – thanks for the great tip on the Air Display app for the iPad. Purchased and downloading now despite a few negative reviews.
